Does Certiqa cover maritime safety management and the ISM Code?

Yes. Certiqa tracks the Company Document of Compliance and each vessel's Safety Management Certificate, computes the verification windows the Code sets from the anniversary date, and holds the rest of a vessel's statutory certificates alongside them. Internal audits on the twelve-month interval, non-conformities and corrective action, controlled documents, crew certificates, drill programmes and critical equipment run on the same governance modules as every other standard. Certiqa evidences the safety management system. The Administration, or a recognised organisation acting on its behalf, verifies and certifies it.

Maritime safety management

A shipping company runs the same governance problem as any other business, with a certificate regime on top of it. Certiqa holds the certificates and the dates they turn on, and runs the audits, non-conformities, documents and records that evidence the safety management system behind them.

Certificate and verification tracker

Both ISM certificates stay valid only if they are verified on time, and the Code sets those windows against the anniversary date. Certiqa computes them from that date and counts down to each one.

Document of Compliance

Held by the Company

Issued for up to five years. Its validity depends on an annual verification, due within three months either side of the anniversary date. An interim Document of Compliance runs for up to twelve months instead.

Safety Management Certificate

Held by each vessel

Issued for up to five years. Its validity depends on at least one intermediate verification, due between the second and third anniversary dates. An interim Safety Management Certificate runs for up to six months.

The rest of a vessel's statutory certificates sit in the same register: safety construction, safety equipment, safety radio, load line, pollution prevention, tonnage, ship security and maritime labour, each with its own survey windows and expiry date alongside.

Certiqa holds the evidence and the dates. The Administration, or a recognised organisation acting on its behalf, carries out the verification and issues the certificate.

Internal audits

The Code sets a twelve-month interval for internal safety audits, on board and ashore. Each vessel and each shore function carries its own schedule, with the findings and evidence attached where they belong.

Non-conformities and corrective action

Non-conformities, accidents and hazardous situations are reported, investigated and analysed. Root cause is recorded and corrective action tracked to closure, including the measures meant to prevent recurrence.

Controlled documents

The safety management manual and the procedures under it run on document control. Current versions are available where they are needed, on board and ashore, and superseded ones are withdrawn.

Crew certificates and expiries

Certificates of competency, endorsements and medical certificates held per seafarer, with expiries surfaced ahead of time and gaps visible against the manning the vessel has to meet.

Drill programmes

Programmes for drills and exercises scheduled per vessel, with the record of what was run, when, and who took part kept as evidence rather than as a note in a logbook.

Critical equipment and stand-by testing

Equipment and technical systems whose sudden operational failure could create a hazardous situation, identified and registered, with the regular testing of stand-by arrangements planned and evidenced.
